“Fruit is sourced from almost every AVA in the Willamette Valley, ensuring optimal blending potential and representation of the diversity of pinot noir in the appellation. Unique sites include vineyards located in the high-elevation Eola-Amity Hills, the foothills of the cool coastal range in the McMinnville AVA, the warm red-soiled vineyards of the Dundee Hills and our expressive Bishop Creek Vineyard in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA. This wine is sourced almost exclusively from biodynamic, organic and LIVE certified vineyards. Native yeast fermented, bottled unfined and unfiltered, vegan.”

Tasting Notes

“The 2017 Willamette Valley is a pure and vibrant ruby in the glass, with aromatics of tart cherry and crushed strawberry, alongside hints of dried rose petal and lavender. The cool vintage reveals a wine which is lithe and ethereal on the palate, a bit shy in its youth, but with fine texture and tannin. A very pretty wine, already well-balanced and approachable. Seductive, with an elegant lightness that makes it very drinkable and enjoyable. From 2020 to 2025.”

93 Points Decanter –  “High-toned and damp, this wine displays aromas of wet earth, Earl Grey tea and cocoa nibs, followed by flavours of pomegranate and red plum skin. It’s classic Oregon Pinot Noir, and one can see the Méo-Camuzet influence, albeit with a softer generosity. The blend is based around Bishop Creek Vineyard, with smaller portions of other sites including Hyland, Knight’s Gambit and Hopewell.”

93 Points Antonio Galloni – “Sexy, assertively perfumed aromas of fresh red fruits, potpourri and baking spices, with a hint of cola in the background. Juicy and focused on the palate, Jay’s 2017 Pinot Noir offers vibrant raspberry, bitter cherry, blood orange and rose pastille flavors and a late jolt of spicy white pepper. Made in a fresh, exuberant style, with silky tannins sneaking in slowly to add shape and grip to the impressively long, spice-accented finish.”

93 Points Wine Spectator – “A lovely wine, elegantly complex and expressive, with raspberry and rose petal aromas accented by a hint of cardamom. Builds tension toward refined tannins.”

92 Points James Suckling – “Very attractive, ripe red and dark cherries, framed in ground espresso, leading to a rich, red cherry and plum palate that has abundant flesh and spicy, cherry-pip tang to close.”

92 Points Wine Enthusiast – “A continuing exploration of French winemaking technique applied to Oregon terroir, the latest releases from Nicolas-Jay show a savvy complexity that rewards your focused attention. Here the strawberry fruit is accented with flavors of composted earth, coffee grounds and cocoa powder, all well integrated and proportionate. The wine is supremely tasty right from the start, and should continue to provide pleasure during the course of this decade.”
